Друг прислал сегодня ссылку на сайт Трансаэро, а там новость, о том, что Лондон, Берлин, Вена, Люксембург, Франкфурт всего за 149 EUR без учета такс и сборов!
Сборы, конечно, тоже немаленькие. Но получается, что тысяч за 13 в январе слетать в Лондон можно будет. Кто со мной? 
The Martian Chronicles - Ray Bradbury, Science fiction novels
From "Rocket Summer" to "The Million-Year Picnic," Ray Bradbury's stories of the colonization of Mars form an eerie mesh of past and future. Written in the 1940s, the chronicles drip with nostalgic atmosphere--shady porches with tinkling pitchers of lemonade, grandfather clocks, chintz-covered sofas. But longing for this comfortable past proves dangerous in every way to Bradbury's characters--the golden-eyed Martians as well as the humans. Starting in the far-flung future of 1999, expedition after expedition leaves Earth to investigate Mars. The Martians guard their mysteries well, but they are decimated by the diseases that arrive with the rockets. Colonists appear, most with ideas no more lofty than starting a hot-dog stand, and with no respect for the culture they've displaced.
Bradbury's quiet exploration of a future that looks so much like the past is sprinkled with lighter material. In "The Silent Towns," the last man on Mars hears the phone ring and ends up on a comical blind date. But in most of these stories, Bradbury holds up a mirror to humanity that reflects a shameful treatment of "the other," yielding, time after time, a harvest of loneliness and isolation. Yet the collection ends with hope for renewal, as a colonist family turns away from the demise of the Earth towards a new future on Mars. Bradbury is a master fantasist and The Martian Chronicles are an unforgettable work of art.
Life of Pi - Yann Martel, fantasy adventure novel
Yann Martel's imaginative and unforgettable Life of Pi is a magical reading experience, an endless blue expanse of storytelling about adventure, survival, and ultimately, faith. The precocious son of a zookeeper, 16-year-old Pi Patel is raised in Pondicherry, India, where he tries on various faiths for size, attracting "religions the way a dog attracts fleas." Planning a move to Canada, his father packs up the family and their menagerie and they hitch a ride on an enormous freighter. After a harrowing shipwreck, Pi finds himself adrift in the Pacific Ocean, trapped on a 26-foot lifeboat with a wounded zebra, a spotted hyena, a seasick orangutan, and a 450-pound Bengal tiger named Richard Parker ("His head was the size and color of the lifebuoy, with teeth"). It sounds like a colorful setup, but these wild beasts don't burst into song as if co-starring in an anthropomorphized Disney feature. After much gore and infighting, Pi and Richard Parker remain the boat's sole passengers, drifting for 227 days through shark-infested waters while fighting hunger, the elements, and an overactive imagination. In rich, hallucinatory passages, Pi recounts the harrowing journey as the days blur together, elegantly cataloging the endless passage of time and his struggles to survive: "It is pointless to say that this or that night was the worst of my life. I have so many bad nights to choose from that I've made none the champion."
An award winner in Canada (and winner of the 2002 Man Booker Prize), Life of Pi, Yann Martel's second novel, should prove to be a breakout book in the U.S. At one point in his journey, Pi recounts, "My greatest wish--other than salvation--was to have a book. A long book with a never-ending story. One that I could read again and again, with new eyes and fresh understanding each time." It's safe to say that the fabulous, fablelike Life of Pi is such a book.

Едва ли найдется в современной литературе другой приключенческий роман-триллер, так же щедро насыщенный размышлениями об устройстве нашего мира, как роман Янна Мартела `Жизнь Пи`, удостоенный в прошлом году престижной Букеровской премии. Удивительная история сосуществования индийского подростка и бенгальского тигра на борту спасательной шлюпки, дрейфующей в течение девяти месяцев по просторам Тихого океана, составляет основное содержание романа. Тот тип взаимоотношений, который постепенно складывается между зверем и человеком, нельзя назвать ни дружбой, ни привязанностью. Это некая странная связь сразу на нескольких уровнях - практическом и подсознательном, инстинктивном и волевом. Чтобы выбраться на волю из клетки сознания, нужно, по меньшей мере, раскачать ее прутья. Эпическо-философская аллегория Янна Мартела справляется с этой задачей блестяще. Приключенческая по форме, познавательная по содержанию и завораживающе мистическая по ощущению, она воспроизводит незабываемую реальность, в которой дуализм `добра` и `зла`, `физики` и `метафизики` стирается без остатка.

Я просто знаю по себе, что многие хотят увидеть прекрасный город чужими глазами - я лишь стараюсь передатиь свои эмоции и показать Лондон глазами его посетителей и постоянных жителей.
Давайте же будем знакомиться с прекрасными девушками Лондона!
Prime meridian

Итак, еще одна мечта … сбылась. Я прибыл к отметке “Нулевой меридиан” (Prime meridian), которая находится во дворе Королевской обсерватории Гринвича. Разделительная (на Восток и Запад) полоса расходится в разные стороны от серебристого указателя, и легко видеть, что Лондон и Гринвич находятся по обе стороны света. Воспользовался случаем, конечно, и я - стоять одной ногой в восточном, а другой - в западном полушариях! Согласен, это довольно условно, но все же. Возле обсерватории на холме - обзорная площадка с лавочками, откуда так здорово виден вечерний Лондон, купающийся в лучах уходящего солнца. Как же я люблю этот город!
