The Romans: From Village to Empire

The Romans: From Village to Empire A wonderful new textbook for my course on the Roman republic to Augustus. Fills a yawning gap. Nothing comparable exists.--William Turpin, Swarthmore College Fresh, comprehensive, and up-to-date, this volume will meet a long-standing need among undergraduates and general readers for a new, stand-alone survey of Roman history. The authors strike a judicious balance between lively and well-paced narrative and thoughtful treatments of institutional and thematic topics. All in all, this is a tour de force of historical synthesis and a benchmark for the field.--Nathan Rosenstein, Ohio State University At long last, we have a thorough, clearly written, well-informed, eminently sensible introduction to Roman History. Many of us have been waiting quite a long time for the appearance of such a book.--Thomas McGinn, Vanderbilt University

Valentine Princess (Princess Diaries, Vol. 7 3/4)

That is, it usually means those things. But when you're Princess Mia, nothing happens the way it's supposed to. For one thing, Grandmиre seems determined to prove that boy (or Michael, as he is commonly known) isn't the right one for the crown princess of Genovia. And Mia isn't having much luck proving otherwise, since Michael has a history of being decidedly against any kind of exploitative commercialization (Valentine's Day, as it is commonly known). Boris can declare his love openly to Lilly, and even Kenny comes through with a paltry Whitman's Sampler. So why can't Michael give in to Cupid and tell Mia he loves hermdash;preferably with something wrapped in red or pink and accompanied by rosesmdash;in time to prove he's Mia's true prince?   Happy Valentine To All EnglishTipsers

Syntax of Verbs In Classical Hebrew Prose

Regardless of its origin in terms of diachronic level and comparative linguistics, a verb form needs to be studied in texts, not in isolation but in connection with all its associated linguistic markers. Which modern tense should be used to translate it can be determined only when its function in the text has been understood.
